Most of the sounds that surround us are continuous or lasting for a certain period of time – the noise of the street, a melody on the radio, the roar of an engine. But there are acoustic phenomena in our environment that appear suddenly and disappear in the blink of an eye, carrying with them a powerful charge of energy. These are the acoustic sprinters, known as impulse sounds.

In sound engineering and noise measurements, it is crucial to differentiate between continuous and transient phenomena due to the completely different response of measuring instruments and the human ear.
Impulse Sound – a single sound with a duration of less than 1 second.
It is characterized by a very steep rise in acoustic pressure to the peak value, followed by a rapid decay. In the analysis of such sounds, special measuring parameters (e.g., Lpeak or time constant I - Impulse) are often used to properly register their maximum energy, which standard meters might not
