Stereo room

The project is designed for a complete experience of sound with a particular emphasis on stereo. It combines a cinema hall with a professional listening room, where it was crucial to create conditions in which music sounds exactly as it was recorded: with full depth, selectivity, and natural space.

The ceiling cornice along with the front corners serves as an active low-frequency zone – the bass traps built there stabilize the lower range and eliminate uncontrolled resonances, which are particularly problematic. The central element of the ceiling is the lacquered Manhattan diffusers. Their three-dimensional geometry disperses mid and high frequencies, giving the sound depth and natural spaciousness. Warm lighting additionally emphasizes their form.

The floor has been finished with soft carpeting laid on SilenceMat acoustic underlay. On the walls, a combination of Rounded directional panels and tuned absorbing devices has been used. These are responsible for controlling the first reflections and precisely guiding the stereo image at the listening point. Meanwhile, densely pleated drapes along the windows regulate the acoustics and effectively cut off the influence of glazing on the sound.

In order to broaden the soundstage between the speakers, we used 1D Schroeder diffusers – Skyline 2. Besides their dispersive properties, they serve as an interesting visual element in the front part of the room. On the back wall, there are membrane panels of varying depths, whose task is to dampen standing waves. To precisely control low frequencies, the whole setup has been supplemented with specially designed freestanding Helmholtz resonators.
