Designing with the ears. A game changer in interior architecture.

"Architects and designers usually focus on the visual effect. It's time for us to start designing for our ears as well." — Julian Treasure A sentence that perfectly captures the direction that conscious interior architecture should take today. It completely redefines the way we think about space, as we experience interiors multisensorially!

In STC in Końskie, an exceptional educational event led by Jerzy Herse takes place cyclically, titled: Acoustics in Interior Architecture – Creating Comfortable Sound Spaces

What is visible is now also, or perhaps above all – what is heard!

Training that changes the perspective.

Noise, reverberation, lack of speech intelligibility, excessive sound stimuli – these are factors that directly affect concentration, work efficiency, stress levels, and even health. Contemporary interiors amaze with form, materials, and refined details. However, one of the key aspects affecting the well-being of users is still overlooked: acoustic comfort.

The main goal of the training is to draw attention to the fact that a well-designed space is one that sounds as good as it looks.

“Designing with the ears” is our manifesto for a modern approach to interior architecture.

Knowledge in practice

Trainings led by Jerzy Herse combine theory with practice. Participants learn:

  • the basics of interior acoustics,

  • the relationships between the geometry of space and the propagation of sound,

  • the impact of finishing materials on the absorption and reflection of sound waves,

  • the most common design mistakes,

  • ways to create spaces conducive to concentration, conversation, and relaxation.

A strong emphasis is placed on practical design approaches – analyzing real implementations, discussing functional problems, and selecting appropriate material and system solutions.

Sound as a conscious design decision

In a world that increasingly focuses on well-being, mental health, and the quality of the work environment, acoustics become one of the key parameters of space quality. Participants gain the knowledge and skills that allow them to consciously shape the acoustic layer of designed interiors. The training combines theory with practice, showing how to translate technical parameters into real user comfort.

During the classes, architects and designers learn:

  • to understand the basic acoustic phenomena occurring in rooms,

  • to analyze the influence of volume, proportions, and the geometry of the interior on the propagation of sound,

  • to recognize issues such as excessive reverberation, echo, or lack of speech intelligibility,

  • to select materials and acoustic systems based on specific technical parameters,

  • to read and interpret measurement results and product technical data sheets,

  • to make design decisions that significantly improve comfort in work, learning, and relaxation.

The first edition of the training in STC in Końskie

Gathered architects and interior designers interested in expanding their competencies. The intimate atmosphere encouraged discussion and the exchange of experiences. The visible engagement of the participants confirmed that the topic of acoustics is no longer niche but becomes an integral part of a professional designer's workshop.
